Marble is a rock that is considered metamorphic. In fact, marble is actually changed limestone, limestone that accepts carbonite materials that have recrystallised and formed other well-known materials into its own form.

1.

Marble ages well. If you are redoing your kitchen or bathroom or even your floors and you are looking for a material that looks flawless, not just within the first few years of purchase, but its whole life, marble is a perfect choice.

Marble has been a building material for thousands of years and not only indoors but as many temples and statues are made out of all marble. Ancient Rome is a good example of a civilisation that appreciated the quality and beauty of this stone. Now think about how old ancient Rome is. These marble structures have been standing under the sky, weathering the wind and rain for thousands of years and they are as if they have never been touched.

Any scratches meld with the stone itself.

2.

The way we use marble now, for floors, buildings and counters, is the same way it was used in ancient civilisations. It has stood the test of time and everyone continued to notice throughout history.

3.

Marble Worktops and counters are common but marble can be used in the bathroom, on the floor and even the exterior of buildings. I know it's an odd concept now in the era of metal and concrete but marble for building exteriors is timeless and strong.

5.

Ground up marble can be used to make different types of glue and other daily materials from medicine to toothpaste. Next time you are taking a medication that is a bit powdery you may very well be eating marble.

6.

Like snowflakes no two pieces of marble are ever the same. Once a piece of marble is cut, you have a completely unique entity. Nature is not a repeater of products and because marbles appearance is determined by the materials and minerals around it, that makes it something that cannot happen in the same way twice.

There are many famous buildings made entirely of marble, one example the Taj Mahal. This great material was not only discovered and used by one culture, it has been used all over the world and you will find it mentioned throughout history.

8.

In ancient times the colour of marble would determine the location of its discovery. This created a way for people to determine another person's wealth simply by the colour of marble they owned.

9.

The famous artist Michelangelo made many of his sculptures in an almost translucent white marble. His style is still used even to this day, not only for art but for function. McMonagles, Donegal is a family owned business that specialises in crafting stone.
